If the territory of Trois-Rivières could recount its past, it would be an unprecedented authority. Witness to centuries of history, the locality of Trois-Rivières was a gathering place and an important crossroads for Aboriginal communities long before the arrival of Europeans. Its position at the confluence of the Saint-Maurice River and the Saint-Lawrence River has made it a hub over the centuries, particularly during the establishment of a trading post and its transformation into a city, which made it one of the first places of settlement in New France. It later had the first steel industry in Canada, and was awarded the title of Newsprint Capital of the World in the mid-19th century. Its past therefore makes Trois-Rivières an important theater of the Aboriginal and Quebec historical fabric.
